Jeff’s Favorite Fridays #SM2Day, Google Waves, Habitats & More

Every week Executive Assistant Jeff Commaroto will share a collection of his favorite things, with noted suggestions from staff, clients, friends and… you! Have something for us to consider? Send it via Twitter, Facebook or you can tag a link on Delicious with TPMFavFri.

SM2Day

@AnnaRC at #SM2DayChris Brogan at #SM2Day

This week the Social Media Club of Rochester held Social Media Today or #SM2Day at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery. Michelle Ashby, Nicolette Hawks and I had the opportunity to stop in during the day and see some of the presentations. The event included speeches by Chris Brogan of New Media Marketing Labs and Jeffrey Hazlett of Kodak.

It is wonderful to see Rochester taking a lead on bringing business to Social Media.

Habitat for Humanity Fan Page

Sean & Laurie turned roofers for Habitat

Last week a team from our company participated in a build for the Flower City Habitat for Humanity. As you can see from the photo above, they even had the chance to do some roofing! If you haven’t seen it, the Fan Page for our local Habitat is an inspiring place where participants share their stories and photos from builds. It is a wonderful example of how a Fan Page promotes the great work of a non-profit, and the hard work and dedication of volunteers.

Google Wave

The jury is still out on whether Google Wave is truly a “favorite” but when it comes to hype, Google definitely deserves an award. This week I received one of the much sought after invitations to join and I raced to activate my account. (I do not have any invites to give and I have already promised co-workers they will be the first on the list, sorry!)

Wave is a “collaboration tool” and it is not quite e-mail, not quite instant message, not quite Twitter or Facebook. You create “Waves” and people can join them and everything is done in real time. You can share videos, audio, links, thoughts and more in these Waves. Few people seem to know exactly what to do with it yet, but everyone seems excited to figure it out.
